We are part of Recovery Café, a refuge for healing and hope, helping countless individuals transform their lives. We believe every individual deserves the opportunity to fulfill his or her potential.
In order to keep love self perpetuating we love first, accept everybody, and leave any judgement outside our door.
The Discovery Café provides a safe place of belonging for those looking for support and stability who are seeking to break the cycle of destruction and despair
About us
Discovery Café was founded on the knowledge that every human being is precious and beloved regardless of past trauma, mental and emotional anguish, addictive behaviors or mistakes made.
We provide a beautiful, safe, warm, drug and alcohol free space and loving community to anchor Members (our most closely-held clients) in the sustained recovery needed to gain and maintain access to housing, social and health services, healthy relationships, education and employment.
Our program is designed to help people maintain recovery, reduce relapse and fulfill their potential.
OUR GOAL
Our goal is to provide a uniquely holistic, full service program that supports the homeless, addicted, and disenfranchised individuals in Garfield, Eagle, and Pitkin Counties by offering everything they need, in one place, to move themselves from crisis to dignity and independence.
By bringing together community partners, we have a network system in place that allows our Members (most closely held clients) access to all of the necessary resources to begin, advance or maintain their road to recovery and healing.
A loving community to help people have a solid foundation in the sustained recovery needed to find and maintain access to safe housing, social and health services, healthy relationships, employment and education.
We do this through peer to peer support, activities, classes, nutritious meal service, and access to needed services and resources. These core intervention elements along with our Members (most closely held clients) who contribute to running the cafe facility and to nurturing the recovery of other Members delivers a community of belonging where our vision and mission of everyone being loved and valued becomes a reality.

GABRIEL COHEN
Executive Director/Peer Support Specialist
I am no stranger to despair. I’ve been in and out of the criminal justice system since I was 15 years old. Addicted to drugs, alcohol, and a life of violence, I was repeatedly kicked out of various treatment centers just when I needed help the most. It wasn’t until I was released from prison for the last time at 41, broke and homeless, that I found my pathway to recovery.
Since then, I have reconnected with my family, and moved to the Western Slope of Colorado where I began training in martial arts and founded American Krav Maga. At 46 I earned my Black Belt in Krav Maga and was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
In 2020 I became an Approved Treatment Provider for the Colorado Department of Corrections, providing outpatient substance use disorder classes for the parole department. I also volunteer with two Sheriff’s departments providing Bible study in the jails with inmates, sharing my story and motivating individuals to make positive changes in their lives through my non-profit charitable organization, Kings and Priests Ministry.
